Abraham Aiyash

Abraham Aiyash was born and raised in Hamtramck, Michigan, the seventh of eight children to Yemeni immigrants. He completed his education in Hamtramck Public Schools and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University, focusing on pre-medicine, political science, and Muslim studies. Early in his career, Aiyash engaged in community organizing for Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign at the age of 13. He later worked in the office of State Rep. Rose Mary Robinson and pursued a political career, culminating in his election to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2020. Aiyash's leadership capabilities were further demonstrated when he became the majority leader of the House of Representatives in 2023, marking a significant milestone as the first Arab-American to hold this position.
