Griffin's professional experience spans military service, where he graduated from prestigious institutions and flew combat missions in Vietnam. He transitioned to academia, teaching military science and coaching football at various universities. After retiring from the Army as a colonel, Griffin took over his family's funeral home business. His leadership roles include serving as mayor of Milledgeville, Georgia, and he has consistently run for various political offices, most recently winning a seat in Georgia’s State House District 149 in 2024.
