Henry W. Harrington completed his foundational education at Temple Hill Academy and studied law in Geneseo. He was admitted to the bar in 1848 and began practicing law in Nunda, New York. Harrington moved to Madison, Indiana, in 1856, continuing his legal career. He later relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1872 before returning to Indiana and settling in Indianapolis in 1874, where he resumed his law practice.
