Ray Shafer

Ray Shafer graduated as valedictorian from high school and later attended Allegheny College, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and class president. He completed his legal education at Yale Law School, where he was involved in intramural sports and moot court. Shafer served in the United States Navy during World War II, participating in over 80 combat missions and earning the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Post-war, he practiced law and was elected district attorney of Crawford County before serving in the State Senate.
