Thomas G. Turner

Thomas G. Turner was born in Warren, Rhode Island, in 1810. He began his career as a clerk in a dry goods store in Newport before co-founding a dry goods and tailoring business in Warren. Turner served in the state militia during the Dorr Rebellion and commanded pro-Governor King forces at Acote's Hill. He held various political positions, including serving in the State Assembly and as lieutenant governor and governor of Rhode Island. Turner was also a trustee of Brown University and an active member of the Baptist Church in Warren. He later served as First Collector of Internal Revenue for the First District of Rhode Island under President Lincoln.
