Thomas H. Herndon

Thomas H. Herndon was born in 1828 in what is now Hale County, Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1847 and attended Harvard Law School the following year. After being admitted to the Alabama bar in 1849, he practiced law in Eutaw and later Mobile. Herndon served in the Alabama House of Representatives and as a trustee for the University of Alabama, reflecting his commitment to public service and education. During the Civil War, he served in the Confederate States Army, rising to the rank of Colonel and being wounded twice. Post-war, he returned to law and later entered politics, running for Governor of Alabama and serving in multiple state constitutional and legislative capacities until his death in 1883.
