Thomas L. Woolwine

Thomas L. Woolwine was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and later settled in Los Angeles, where he was admitted to the California bar in 1899. He earned a Bachelor of Laws from the Cumberland School of Law and a degree from Columbian College. Woolwine began his legal career in Los Angeles, serving as Deputy City Attorney before being appointed City Prosecuting Attorney and Deputy District Attorney of Los Angeles County. He was elected District Attorney of Los Angeles County in 1914 and re-elected in 1916, during which he prosecuted several high-profile cases, including those involving price fixing, arson, and funding mismanagement. Despite unsuccessful runs for District Attorney and Governor of California, Woolwine remained active in public service until health issues led to his resignation in 1923.
