Thomas M. Browne

Thomas M. Browne was born in New Paris, Ohio, and later moved to Indiana, where he studied law and began his legal career. He served multiple terms as prosecuting attorney for a judicial circuit and held the position of secretary of the Indiana Senate before joining the Union Army during the Civil War. Browne rose to the rank of colonel and was brevetted a brigadier general for his military service. After the war, he transitioned to federal service as the United States Attorney for the District of Indiana and later represented Indiana in the House of Representatives.
