Thomas Tillis graduated high school in 1978 and later earned a Bachelor of Science in technology management from the University of Maryland University College in 1996. He began his career in insurance before moving to Wang Laboratories and later Price Waterhouse, where he was promoted to partner. Transitioning to IBM, he eventually left to pursue a political career, first winning a seat in the North Carolina House of Representatives in 2006. Tillis served multiple terms and was elected Speaker of the North Carolina House in 2011.
Thomas Tillis blends a fiscally conservative approach with a surprising willingness to engage in contentious social policy debates. His legislative record reveals a calculated approach to protecting regional industrial interests, as seen in his handling of environmental regulations. Tillis's stance on voter ID laws and Medicaid expansion has sparked significant controversy, revealing a complex ideological positioning that merits deeper examination.
