Van Hilleary was born and raised in Rhea County, Tennessee, and attended the University of Tennessee on an Air Force ROTC scholarship. He served as a second lieutenant, flying 24 combat and combat support missions during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, earning multiple military honors. After obtaining a law degree, Hilleary won a congressional seat in Tennessee’s 4th District, increasing his margin of victory in every election. He served on the Armed Services and House Budget Committees, voting to balance the federal budget four times. Following his congressional career, Hilleary worked in the private sector and later served as Chief of Staff for Congressman John Rose, implementing President Trump’s agenda.
Van Hilleary's political identity is marked by a staunch alignment with law enforcement and border security, coupled with a fierce defense of individual freedoms and opposition to federal overreach. His strategic philosophy reveals a calculated approach to regional industrial interests, as evidenced by his surprising convergence with opposing factions on environmental regulations. Hilleary’s rhetoric consistently frames issues around accountability and protection, whether it’s for law enforcement, energy workers, or Second Amendment rights.
