Robert E. Gable, born in Frankfort, Kentucky, in 1934, comes from a lineage rooted in the state's industrial history as the great-grandson of Justus S. Stearns, founder of Stearns Coal and Lumber Company. Gable's career includes significant leadership roles within the Kentucky Republican Party, serving as its chairman for seven years. He made two attempts at the governorship, running in 1975 and 1995, though he did not secure the office. Gable also engaged in national electoral processes, serving as an at-large elector for the McCain/Palin ticket in 2008. Throughout his life, he was married to Emily Thompson until her passing in 2017.
